Material Culture of Wills: Citizen Science meets HTR

25,000 wills from 1540–1790 transcribed through a powerful combination of HTR and citizen science. The Material Culture of Wills project used Zooniverse volunteers and an active learning approach — targeting volunteer effort precisely where HTR quality was lowest — to iteratively train better models and unlock a rich window into early modern material life in England.
