Unraveling the Peruvian Archival Legacy: Custom HTR Model for Amazonian Manuscripts and Printed Catalogues Reconstruction

At the Historical Archive of the Riva-Agüero Institute in Lima, Transkribus is both a research tool and a teaching platform. This talk shares how digital humanities students collectively trained a custom HTR model on the notebooks of Amazonian customs administrator Marcos Cavero, while also tackling the reconstruction of printed archival catalogues — revealing lessons about what makes field recognition succeed or fail.
