Scaling HTR Literacy: The Winter School of HTR in Vienna

Now in its fourth year, the Vienna Winter School for HTR is where the next generation of Transkribus experts learn their craft — from ground truth preparation to model training to Open Access publication. In 2025, the programme expanded to seven language groups spanning Carolingian Latin to Syriac to Byzantine Greek, making it one of the most ambitious and inclusive HTR education initiatives in the world.
