Lost in Translation, Found in Transkribus: Sino-Latin "Mashups" of the 1727 Propaganda Fide Archives

In 1727, Chinese official gazetteering and clerical Latin shared the same manuscript page in the Propaganda Fide archives — and standard OCR logic doesn't stand a chance. This paper reveals the bespoke Transkribus workflow developed to handle these extraordinary polyglot documents: switching between vertical Sinitic characters and cursive Latin loops, taming 1720s abbreviations, and teaching an HTR model to read like an 18th-century polyglot missionary.
