As Professor of Digital Cultural Heritage at the University of Edinburgh, Melissa has dedicated her career to the digitisation of heritage items, focusing on technologies, procedures, and their impact.

She is a founding member of READ-COOP and has served as an honorary member of the board since 2019. She is responsible for supporting the use of Transkribus in academic contexts, and building partnerships with the scholarly community.
