Vítor Matos is a biological anthropologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Évora, Portugal. He is an integrated member of CIAS – Research Centre for Anthropology and Health, University of Coimbra, and Associate Editor of «Antropologia Portuguesa». His research brings together skeletal evidence and archival sources from former hospitals to explore past experiences of illness, care and social responses to disease. Working across paleopathology, bioarchaeology and the history of medicine, he focuses particularly on the biocultural history of leprosy and tuberculosis.
