Automatic Transcription of patients records from the hospitals of the University of Coimbra, a new model

175 early 20th-century hospital records from the University of Coimbra — combining printed templates with handwritten clinical entries — defeated existing Portuguese HTR models entirely. As part of a PhD in Biological Anthropology linked to the university's Identified Skeletal Collection, this project is building a new, purpose-trained model to unlock this medically and anthropologically rich archive for future research.
