Every boarding pass on this boat is a tiny document with a life cycle: written, read, kept. That is the same cycle Transkribus was built for, only the archives we usually work with had to wait a few centuries between the first two steps.

Written by hand

Your name went onto the pass at the reception desk, in someone's handwriting. That line is the only original in the whole document.

After the cruise, the crew stubs are photographed and transcribed with Transkribus. Handwriting from tonight becomes searchable text by the morning.

Kept for later

Keep the main part. In a hundred years, someone will want to transcribe it, and we would like to think they will use something that grew out of this community.

Itinerary

Dinner, drinks and live folk music from the Bavarian–Austrian borderlands, with the old town sliding past as the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz meet.

1. 19:00Boarding at pier A12, Fritz-Schäffer-Promenade, right next to the bus parking.
2. 19:30Departure. A three-rivers round trip past the old town, then upstream to Kasten and back.
3. 22:30Back in Passau. The evening winds down at the pier.
4. 23:30End of the evening. Disembark by midnight.
