Abandon All Consistency?

Navigating the Methodological Hell of Transcription Standards

"Diplomatic", "normalised", "graphetic" — the same words mean different things to a Latinist, a Slavicist, and a Germanic philologist, and HTR doesn't care about any of them. It just needs consistency. This roundtable opens an honest conversation about the methodological chaos surrounding ground truth preparation: whether a unified standard is even desirable, or whether better documentation and metadata is a more realistic goal. Participants are invited to share their own disciplinary horror stories and debate whether the future of ground truth lies in transparency and multi-layered data rather than impossible consensus.
